| Soz skips function to unveil statue of Indira Gandhi | | Unity is still a distant dream in faction ridden Cong | | ET Report JAMMU, Feb 22: Although campaign for the Lok Sabha elections is already started, unity is still a distant dream in faction ridden Congress party. For the last some days Congress leadership was trying to give a message the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Saif ud Din Soz have iron out their differences but reality is different. Conspicuous absence of Saif ud Din Soz in the function which was held to unveil status of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was a clear indication that all is not well in the Congress. In the newly constituted jumbo PCC, Soz has tried to accommodate supporters of Ghulam Nabi Azad but senior leaders yet have to present a united face. Interestingly it was on the death anniversary of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 2013 that both Azad and Soz had pledged to iron out their differences but while unveiling statue of Indira Gandhi unity appeared to be disappeared. On October 31, 2013, both Azad and Soz had jointly participated in a function at Congress headquarters. It was announced during that function that in the coming months Soz would organize different functions and both of them would jointly participate in those functions. Leaders of both the factions were present in that function so it was announced from the stage that no slogan would be raised from the gathering. Congress in Jammu and Kashmir is divided between two factions- one headed by Soz and another group which owe its allegiance with Ghulam Nabi Azad. Due to threat of Narendra Modi, Congress leadership has taken some sincere initiatives to bring unity among warring faction but this unity efforts is yet to reach at grass root level. In the convention of Congress which was held on August 31, 2013 AICC general secretary and incharge J&K Congress Ambika Soni had asked the local leadership to present united face to face the challenges. |
