| Harsh Dev lambasts coalition regime for creating 'rhetoric' only | | | Kunal Shrivatsa
Jammu, Feb 22: In a scathing attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah led coalition regime for an alleged discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh, the Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) MLA Harsh Dev Singh during proceedings of State Legislative Assembly here today said that the state coalition government for the last five years mere indulged on rhetoric whereas its performance was low on delivery with all its tall claims, airy slogans and loud pronouncements have fallen flat. The JKNPP stalwart Harsh Dev Singh was all fire while taking part in the discussion on Demands for Grants for Home, Power and other departments in the Lower House of the State Legislature. "It is the time for the state government to introspect as the current session probably will be the last one for this dispensation," said Harsh Dev. "The government's tall claims all through these five years remained on paper only since several announcements never arrived at the desired results," he added. While referring to setting up of various commissions and committees during present government's regime, the Panthers leader said that only huge amount of money was wasted on such exercises as their reports and recommendations were never utilized. "The government constituted Finance Commission and it was told that the 5-year plan or annual plan will be finalized on the basis of its recommendations but the Commission's proposals were never implemented despite spending lakhs of rupees," citing an example of such futile exercises Harsh Dev said. Raking up the issue of regional imbalance with point wise reference of alleged neglect, deprivation and discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh regions, Harsh Dev said that the state government failed to remove regional disparity." A Special Task Force was constituted to settle the issue of regional imbalance with Jammu and Ladakh ... Even Prime Minister declared that the recommendations of the Task Force shall be binding upon the state government and the recommendations have to be implemented within three years," he said. "Task Force recommended Rs 914 crore for Jammu and Ladakh, however, even after four years the state government did not implement the recommendations... The government refused to pay the recommended funds ...This shows that the government is not ready to address the issue of regional disparity with Jammu and Ladakh since you (Govt) want to treat them as colonies and vote banks," he added. Harsh Dev further said that the biased approached against Jammu could be gauged from the fact the state government did not sanction any package for the beautification of river Tawi and conservation of Surinsar-Mansar lakes. "If a package of Rs 1100 Cr could be sanctioned for Dal Lake, Rs 386 Crore were approved for Wuller Lake and a package of Rs 2500 Crore for beautification and conservation of River Jhelum could be submitted to Government of India then why can't a package amounting to Rs 200 crore for the preservation of Mansar and Surinsar lakes be sought," said Harsh Dev. "Approving an amount of Rs 500 Crore for River Tawi's beautification and conservation is a distant possibility under this regime but couldn't the government even project the demand of a package from the centre," he quipped while targeting the present regime on discrimination with Jammu region. |
