| Govt to put shrines Bill to vote during current session: Saifullah | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 26: The Government will put the Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Religious Places Bill to vote during the current session of State Legislature for constitution of the Board to protect the Hindu religious places in Valley. This was disclosed by Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah while talking to reporters after the tabling of Select Committee report in State Assembly which examined the Bill. The Minister said that out of nine members of the Committee some have supported the Bill in its present form while others suggested that some existing Trusts be kept away from the purview of the Bill. As the House Committee has no unanimity on the Bill so the members of the assembly will decide whether these trusts should be kept away from the Bill or bought under its purview. He said that the much delayed Bill will be got passed in the Assembly during current Session. The Bill was given to Select Committee for examine as some members had raised certain objections for its passage in its present form when it was tabled during last session. The Select Committee after seeking opinion of the stake holders submitted its report today. It may be recalled that while Kashmiri Pandits enmass are demanding passage of the Bill, there are various trusts and committees which are managing the affairs of various shines opposed its passage tooth and nail. They demanded that either the Government should drop the bill altogether or keep at least 51 shrines controlled by them away from its purview. The managing committees of these trusts while supporting their arguments said that they have managed their shrines with the cooperation of local Muslims during the period of turmoil also while the shrines managed by the displaced Pandits were damaged. However Kashmiri Pandits accuse some of these trusts of selling the hundreds kanals of land of the shrines in league with the land mafia and were demanding that all shrines be brought under the purview of the Bill. |
