CITU holds protest rally, highlights demands of employees

Jammu, Feb 26: Thousands of workers belonging to different trade unions across the state affiliated with Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) held a massive protest rally in support of their demands.
Holding red flags, banners and placards in their hands and shouting slogans in support of their demands and against anti-working class policies of the government, the rally passed through the bazaars winter capital to get attention from the state government.
While addressing the rally, M Y Tarigami, State President, CITU, expressed his concern over the plight of the working class people who have been adversely hit by the sky rocketing prices of essential commodities. "Neo-liberal economic policies pursued by the Central government have unleashed havoc for workforce especially working in unorganized sector," he said and added, "failure of the government in extending social security benefits to the workers in this sector, have proved detrimental to the interests of the working class movement.
Om Parkash, General Secretary J&K CITU in his address raised the issues of workers working at National Highway in LEIGHTON, HCC Company at Bandipora & AFCONS Jammu and also issues related to Railway Loading & Unloading Workers working Jammu. Speaking on occasion Comrade Sham Parsad Kesar, Senior leader of CITU expressed anguish over the pitiable condition of ASHA workers, Angnawadi workers/helpers and Mid Day Meal Workers. He demanded minimum wages of Rs.10000/- PM for all these workers, pension and other social security benefits and also right to organize as per 45th India Labour Conference. He demanded immediate implementation of the order from Mission Director, NRHM, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI, dated 3rd January, 2014 regarding enhancement of incentives including Rs.1000/- per month for ASHAs. He also demanded sanctioning of benefits to Anganwadi workers on Haryana pattern and other demands of employees. Kesar further demanded speedy registration of construction workers and immediate release of pending claims to the beneficiaries.
Earlier large number of activists from Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (J&K), ASHA Workers Union -Jammu, ASHA workers Union- Kashmir, Mid-Day-Meal Workers Union, Railway Loading & Unloading Workers Union, Kashmir Constructional Workers Union, Jammu National Highway Workers Union, Construction of Tunnel & Four Lane Road Workers Union, Chenani, Nirman Mazdoor Union-Jammu & Kathua, Industrial Estate Workers Union, Coal Khan Mazdoor Union, Rhedi and Phedi Workers Union, Bhatha Mazdoor Union, Hindustan Coca Cola Workers Union etc assembled near Tawi bridge and participated in the demonstration.
