| UGC Refresher Course concludes at JU | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 9: Three week long UGC Refresher Course in Library and Information Science organized by Academic Staff College, University of Jammu Concluded today on 09-03-2014 (Sunday). This program is of 21 days duration starting from February 17 to March 9, 2014. Twenty three Assistant librarians as well as Librarians from colleges and Universities across J & K attended the course during which around thirty resourse persons delivered the lectures. Prof. I A Hamal, Vice-Chancellor, BGSBU, Rajouri was the Chief Guest in the Valedictory function. He discussed the importance of books, online knowledge resources in this modern ICT era. He also stressed the importance of reading habits and cited hardships of literature search during earlier days. He emphasized to Library professionals to play pro-active role in promoting reading habits, utilizing freely available online information / knowledge resources available on internet by organizing awareness and orientation programmes for students, faculty in particular and society at large. Prof. Rajender Gupta, Director Academic Staff College was present on the occasion and he highlighted the significance of Refresher Courses for teachers and library professionals. While speaking on the occasion Prof. Gupta apprised the participants that continuous learning and upgrading skills is an essential component of present Knowledge Society. Prof. Sangita Gupta, Head of the LIS Department and Course coordinator presented the brief proceeding of the whole programme. She apprised the participants about the impact of information communication technologies on the libraries. She stressed upon the need that now every library professional should keep himself or herself abreast of the latest technologies to meet with the information needs of the library users. Various participants shared their experiences and presented the feedback report of the course. Earlier, Sh. Parmod K Singh, Asstt Prof. read the welcome address whereas formal vote of thanks was delivered by Ranjit Kalra, Asst. Director Academic Staff College. |
