| LS poll 2014, winners not known, losers already identified | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 9: Is corruption really an election issue in Jammu and Kashmir? Would the fate of the contestants in 2014 Lok Sabha elections in the State be decided on corruption issues? Would the corrupt and nepotic politicians finally find their exit during these elections?
Euphemistic and simple questions. Perhaps every voter will claim to know the answers and so would all the political analysts, pollsters, soothsayers and newsmen.
The fact, however, remains that it is not clear yet and it might not be clear till the results are out to know whether corruption is really a poll issue in the State.
Corruption has not only become a part and parcel of the routine dealings in the State whether these are official or commercial, it has also come to invade the minds and hearts of the people resulting in its acceptance and the fear to revolt against the system.
Would the people who get their chance after half a decade to send their true representatives to the Lok Sabha and after six years to choose those who should rule them in the State, understand the power of their 'democratic revolt' ? If such a power is realized by the voters during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections then it might be difficult to predict the winners, but the losers are already known to everybody in Jammu and Kashmir.
Those sponsored corruption, converted it into a lucrative industry, ran their political parties by breeding and feeding corruption are too well known to the voters to be missed when the crucial stage to press the magic button on the EVM comes.
For many years now the poor and the powerless have been herded and hounded by corrupt politicians. The system is rotten and that is accepted by both those who run the system and those who oppose it. That the elections are the only means through which the ordinary Indian can make the difference is also known to everybody.
But, the million dollar question is whether the people have the will to assert and exercise their power to shoe out those who treat them with contempt and disdain.
How the people the will and power to throw those politicians out of the window who did not open their doors to allow them entry into their political and administrative offices?
Time has finally come for the people's judgement of those who treat self and pelf above everything else. Well, we might not know the winners of LS poll 2014, but the losers are there out on the road. |
