NABARD celebrates International Women’s day

Samba. Mar 9: International Women's Day was celebrated by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) at Samba to mark the equality and progress of women and also to respect, appreciate and love all the women in the world. The focus of the celebrations was "Women Empowerment through Self Help Groups". Around 250 women SHG members and rural entrepreneurs promoted under NABARD's SHG-Bank Linkage programme participated in this programme. The programme was inaugurated by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Samba, Inderjit Bhagat by lightening the traditional lamp. Bhagat congratulated all the members on the occasion of International Women's Day. He said that this day marks the celebration of achievements of women across fields. He also deliberated on various issues related to women equality and prosperity. He expressed his pleasure towards NABARD for organising this programme. Surinder Singh, District Development Manager of NABARD, while speaking on the occasion apprised about the importance of Self Help Groups in empowerment of rural women and how these groups are acting as micro banks at gross root level. He said that Self Help Groups are a vital tool for socio economic development of women. On this occasion, a few Self Help Groups were also provided loans by the banks to set up their income generating units. The women members presented a number of cultural items during the programme which was highly appreciated by all. The play "Ek Nanhi Cheekh" on female foeticide presented by the members of New Sargam Social & Culture Club was extremely emotional and heart touching. Sister Ancita from Kristu Jyoti Social Welfare Society presented the vote of thanks. Sh. B M Sharma, LDM, Sh. B K Goswami - District Manager J&K Bank, Upinder Sharma , S L Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, Raj Kumar Bhagat, Chandji Tickoo, Sh. Puran Chand, Ajit Paul etc were also present during the programme.
