As per the details, the short circuit took place at around 2.30 p.m. and was seen by the people walking on the road and in case the incident had taken place, the loss to the public property could have been great. Being Sunday today, the shop was closed when the incident took place. Even though the government of Jammu and Kashmir has claimed to have spent several hundred crore rupees on maintenance of transmission and distribution system of electricity in both urban and rural areas of the state, but on ground no improvement has been seen and the people are busy in stealing the power with active support of the electricity department officials and staff. In today's case, the unplanned and illegal hooking was the main cause of short circuit. "Even though electricity department claims to have installed meters in the area, but their employees are promoting illegal pilferage --- that too in such a way that it remains hidden from the public notice, which ultimately lead to electricity short circuit" said one of the passerby at the site of the incident.
