| Surrendering of Rs 5 cr earthquake relief by former DC Kishtwar | | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Jammu, Mar 11: After witnessing massive uproar in J&K assembly over the surrendering of Rs. 5 cr earthquake relief by former Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Baseer Ahmed Khan, the government of J&K has finally decided to return the surrendered money back and has directed the present Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Javed Ahmed Khan to verify the claims made by the former Congress Minister and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori. While talking to "Early Times", Congress MLA Ghulam Mohammad Saroori said that after his meeting with Revenue Minister Ajaiz Ahmed Khan at Jammu few days back wherein he (Saroori) strongly resented the move of former Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar over surrendering the said relief amount meant for the distribution among the May 1 and May 14th last year earthquake in erstwhile Doda District. He said that the government decision to return the relief money came in wake of his strong resentment with government and minister. He said that revenue minister has assured him about returning the surrender money. He said that the relief amount surrendered by the former DC Kishtwar will soon be released for disbursement among the earthquake victim. Meanwhile the government sources confirmed to "Early Times" that the government is mulling the option to return the said amount back, but added that keeping in view of implementation of Model Code of conduct in the state, the government officials are looking for the legal option with regard to return of the said amount. The sources further added that the issue is presently under consideration and the decision with regard to the same will be taken shortly. It is pertinent to mention that former minister and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori on March 4, 2014 while raising the issue in J&K demanded probe against former Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Bashir Khan for surrendering an amount of Rs. 5 crore meant for relief to Kishtwar earthquake victims. As per the details prepared by various agencies of government of Jammu and Kashmir, 29,000 houses have been reported damaged partially, 10500 severely and 655 fully in Doda district alone while 18000 houses have been partially damaged, 2700 severely and 70 fully in Kishtwar district. In Ramban district private property worth Rs. 15 lakh and government property worth Rs 1.5 crore has also been reportedly damaged. The Group of Ministers was told that 494 schools, 12 PHCs and 273 Community Centres have been damaged severely in the Doda district as against 169 schools in Kishtwar. |
