| Cong workers caution leadership against depending on NC workers for electoral success | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 11: Congress leadership is worried over non-cooperative approach being adopted by the coalition partner National Conference to support Congress candidates. Officially Congress has not announced any candidate for Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seats but National Conference workers at grass root level are not giving encouraging response to the Congress candidates. Today a meeting of the executive committee members of Pradesh Congress Committee was held to formulate strategy for elections of both the Lok Sabha seats. Credible sources said that during the meeting all Congress leaders and workers expressed their concern over attitude of the National Conference workers and asked leadership to take up this issue with the National Conference leadership. Some Congress workers tried to draw attention of the party leaders towards campaign launched by NC workers at grass root level against Congress for Lok Sabha elections. Credible sources said that Congress workers said that some senior NC workers have passed remarks against Congress sitting Lok Sabha members publicly. They pointed out that some NC workers of Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban are publicly passing remarks against sitting Congress Lok Sabha members and observed that this approach of NC workers are sending wrong message among a particular community. They cautioned the party leaders against depending upon on NC workers for success of party candidates. They said that instead of depending upon NC workers for campaign at village and block level, Congress leaders should set up own network in all the 37 assembly segments of Jammu province to utilize this network in coming Assembly elections. Party workers aired apprehension that NC can sabotage Congress's chances of winning elections so party leaders should constitute coordination committees at village level only for formality and important responsibilities of elections should be given only to Congress workers. Credible sources said that majority of the Congress workers who spoke on today's meeting cautioned the high command against depending upon NC for success of Congress candidates. They suggested for booth level work, Congress leaders from Udhampur-Doda-Kathua constituency should be given important responsibilities in Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary seat on the day of polling. Similarly workers from Jammu-Poonch seat should be moved to Udhampur-Doda-Kathua constituency on April 17 when polling will be held. |
