| Gupta demands probe into scams in CAG report | | | | Jammu, Mar 11: The former Union Minister and MLA, Chaman Lal Gupta has ridiculed the mere lame explanation by some Government leaders over the alleged scams pinpointed in the CAG report and sought a deep probe by some independent body or at least by the Vigilance Commission and the Accountability Commission in a time bound manner. Gupta said that the CAG is an important constitutional body but it was strange that its findings are being dismissed by a minister. The land scams are there on the very face of the law viz Roshni Act to dispose of certain encroachments. At the time of adopting the act, it was termed as an historic legislation as this would not only regularize the certain old encroachments but would also fetch the exchequer a big amount of Rs.25000 crores. This would enable to execute several power projects and overcome the problems of energy. But now after six / seven years, it is being given that only about Rs.100 crores have been recovered. This itself smells foul even without the CAG and needed a serious probe. He regretted that the report of CAG is presented in the Assembly on the last day of the session and thus, the members are deprived of airing their views. This time the CAG report has made quite some important observations and expositions about many flaws and wrongs. It is obvious that this was leading to uneasy situation for Government leaders. But to stem the wrought, it is essential to take some extra-ordinary steps, one may like or not. Gupta said malpractices are hitting at the vitals of the society and situation demands stern measures in practical to set things right. |
