3/18/2014 11:02:22 PM

asin generous streak was recently under the spotlight, when
she received an honour from the Kerala government. A person close to the actress says, `For over five years now, Asin has been funding the education of six girls from Kerala and she has promised the orphanage all her financial support to ensure that they complete their studies. She wants to support them in every possible way and even visits them whenever possible.`
The Kerala Government recently felicitated her and even made her the face of their women empowerment programme. `Asin doesn't discuss her social work openly as she doesn't want people to think of it as a publicity stunt,` says a source.
When contacted, Asin, who hails from Kerala, emphasised the need to reach out to such children, especially girls. She said, `I have worked closely with these children and I know that if given the right opportunity, women can educate themselves and know what is wrong or right for them. Education is a basic right and women should not be deprived of that.`
