JAMMU, Mar 18: Gearing up for taking Congress-National Conference (NC) coalition candidates head-on, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is confirming dates for holding rallies of its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi not only in Jammu but in Srinagar and Ladakh as well.
Highly placed sources said that Narendra Modi would begin his J&K election campaign by addressing a rally in Samba district of Jammu region on March 26. They added that the rally would be followed by Narendra Modi visiting Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine on the same day. He wants to get blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi before taking forward his election campaign in rest of the country, said a source in New Delhi.
He maintained that this rally would be followed by two more rallies in Udhampur as well as Leh-Ladakh including Kargil where people are yearning to listen to him. Sources in the BJP said that plans have already been drawn and a request has already been placed before national leadership as well as aides and advisors of Narendra Modi for two more rallies apart from the one in Samba.
Though they are yet to receive a confirmation from BJP headquarter in New Delhi but insiders maintained that aides of Modi have indicated the personnel interest of BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate of addressing rallies in J&K. They further said that a confirmation is likely to be received in a day or two about places where the other two rallies would be held.
They maintained that Modi's aides have indicated of him addressing two more rallies either in a single day or in two days at Udhampur and Ladakh including Kargil. There is also a proposal of holding a rally in Kashmir valley, said sources. "A rally is being planned either in Srinagar or at some other place in Srinagar constituency," said an office bearer of BJP. Sources further said that these rallies are aimed at boosting morale of BJP rank and file in J&K.
They maintained that BJP had earlier planned a rally in Akhnoor but later deferred it for reasons best known to the state leadership. Sources said that these rallies are aimed at boosting the morale of BJP cadre and ensuring that the candidates put up by it get votes on expected lines. Apart from Modi, among other top leaders who would be addressing rallies include BJP National President Rajnath Singh.
He would address rallies wherever the demand of BJP workers would come, said a source. Confirming this to Early Times, BJP Incharge for J&K Avinash Rai Khanna said "We are receiving great response from Srinagar and Kargil. We have already taken up the issue with national leadership. A confirmation is likely to be received in a day or two. Once this is done, the workers would work extremely hard to ensure huge success of these rallies."
The rallies have been planned at places where Narendra Modi would be able to reach to people of Jammu-Poonch and Doda-Udhampur constituencies, said Khanna. He said that a similar kind of arrangement would be made in Srinagar and Leh-Ladakh. "We are getting awesome response from all parts of J&K. Rallies of Narendra Modi would help us in consolidating our votes," said Khanna.
