| Anti national postings galore on social media sites | | Police cyber cell a lame duck | | Asif Iqbal Naik Jammu, Mar 18: Tall claims of Jammu and Kashmir Police of having state of the art anti cyber crime cell to tackle cyber crimes in state have turned out to be hoax as it has failed to detect and act against elements who spread communal hatred and anti national agenda using these social networking sites. In a bid to tackle the menace of growing cyber crime, Jammu and Kashmir Police in the year 2012 established two special cyber cells in Jammu and Srinagar, but the initiative has proved to be an exercise in futility as they have failed to check the anti India rant on the social networking sites like "Facebook" and "twitter". As per the details available with "Early Times", several pages were created by these anti national elements on social networking sites particularly on "Facebook" not only challenging Indian sovereignty, but also promoting communal hatred and separatism. Even though the Srinagar based cyber cell in 2012 claimed to have tracked atleast 24 persons two years back who uploaded objectionable updates on Facebook, but nothing has been heard since then even though objectionable material has continued to be posted. Anti national elements have created pages like Tehrik-e-Hurriyat 'G' Youth Wing (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tehrik-E-Hurriyat-G-Youth-Wing/593386607415656), Tehreek e Hurriyat J&K (Syed Ali Shah Geelani) (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tehreek-e-Hurriyat-JK-Syed-Ali-Shah-Geelani/171238182931877) and many other pages promoting anti India rant. We Love Syed Ali Shah Geelani (https://www.facebook.com/pages/We-Love-Syed-Ali-Shah-Geelani/1433025503602284) page claim to be traced by the Srinagar cyber cell in 2012 still exist and authorities even after three years of detection of this page have failed to either block it or to take action against the culprits. It is pertinent to mention here that these social networking pages played a highly provocative role in fuming unrest in the state during Afzal Guru hanging, Gool incident, Kishtwar communal clashes and particularly in much hyped recent expulsion case of 67 Kashmiri students by Meerut University. Government's repeated acts of blocking internet services, disabling SMS facility on pre paid mobile phones and now restrictions on mobile number portability in the state look comically insufficient in the backdrop of the fact that during last two years, the cyber cells have not been able to take any substantive action against the perpetrators. |
