| 20,000 families denied ration cards in Ganderbal | | As CM, FM watch helplessly | | Early Times Report ganderbal, Mar 18: Notwithstanding the claims of the Government to provide ration to every house hold after the passage of Food Security Bill by Parliament, over 20,000 families in Ganderbal district have been deprived of ration cards as per the census of 2011. According to sources over 20,000 families as per the census of 2011 are deprived of ration cards in the Chief Minister's Ganderbal Constituency alone and though there is a lot of public outcry in the area the Government till date has failed to solve the issue. As per the figures available with CAPD Department, 43,500 families have been allocated ration cards in Ganderbal district as per the census of 2001. However, the Department gives ration to 47, 000 families through internal arrangement system. But the total families who have applied for ration card as per the latest census in the district are 68,000 which indicate that 25,000 families are deprived of ration in this district alone. Sources said when Chief Minister could not solve the problems of the people in his own Constituency what the people in other parts of State could expect from him. The Government claims that it will ensure supply of ration to every house hold in the State and the issue has been taken up with Union Government which stopped some quota of supply granted under the special category for nomadic Gujjars etc. Sources said the Ganderbal district comprising of two Assembly segments, Ganderbal and Kangan are represented by Chief Minister and Minister of Forest respectively. Though both of them have been made aware of the issue, they failed to settle it which has generated a lot of public resentment in the district. Sources said in Waskura village of the Ganderbal district comprising of 300 families only 100 families have been given ration cards while the others have been deprived. The people of the village have been crying for the same but to no avail. Moreover, there is no ration depot in the village while the Consumer and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department is bound to open a ration ghat in the village which has over 100 consumers, said Mir Ghulam Rasool Butwani a veteran Trade Unionist and district coordinator People’s Conference. Same is the condition in other villages of Wakura, Daab, Khanpora, Gozhama, Yangoora, Batwina, Shepathri, Waskura, Wandhama, Barsoo, Lar, Rangil, Manigam Pandach, Khalmulla and Gulab Bagh, he added. Mir who is all set to contest the elections against the Chief Minister from Ganderbal Assembly segment has assured the people that he will not rest till the ration problem is not settled and deprived families are provided ration cards as per 2011 census. The PC which has launched a crusade against the CAPD said that the Minister concerned was hoodwinking the people and the ration meant for consumers is being pilferage by the Department and there is a nexus in this regard. What can be more callousness of the CAPD towards the people that Ghulam Nabi Teli of Waskura Ganderbal who has separate family for last 18 years has been deprived of ration card. Teli has also approached the PC leadership in the area to seek justice. Same is the story of Bashir Ahmed Hajam another resident of the area. The people in the area are up in arms against the CAPD and Hajam said that the Kandamen appointed of ghat Munshis and store keepers are being paid out of their own pocket and this is a million dollar question where from they get the money to feed provide them. Hajam and Ghulam Nabi Teli demanded a high level probe into the matter. Even the kerosene oil is not being supplied to consumers and the claims in this regard are totally hollow alleged the people in the area. They said that the same is being sold by depot holders to petrol pumps in black and there is big nexus in which higher ups in the Department are also involved. |
