| Suspense continues over Azad’s candidature | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 18: Congress has released third list of its 58 candidates but there was no mention of candidates of Jammu and Kashmir. Suspense over candidate of most important Udhampur-Doda-Kathua seat still continues because Congress party has not announced candidate for this seat. Credible sources in the Congress said that name of Union Minister and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has almost finalized but Congress high command is waiting for appropriate opportunity to announce Azad's candidature for this seat. Important to mention here that just four days have been left for filing nomination papers but Congress leadership has yet to announce candidate for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat. Campaign for sitting Lok Sabha member Madan Lal Sharma has already kicked off by Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad along with PCC chief Saif ud Din Soz and National Conference leaders Ajay Sadhotra and Devender Singh Rana but party high command is hesitating to announce candidates officially Congress workers and leaders were expecting that names of all the three candidates would be announced tonight but in the list of 58 candidates announced by Screening Committee of the Congress Jammu and Kashmir did not figure in the list. Sources said that delay in releasing for party candidates has been affecting campaign of the party. Workers of Congress party were expecting name of Azad would be announced this evening but there was no official communication. As par seat sharing agreement, both National Conference and Congress will contest three seats each. The NC will be contesting in all the three Parliamentary seats in the Valley, while the Congress will be in the fray for two seats in Jammu and one in Ladakh. The NC has announced its three nominees. The Congress leaders, who said the party might announce all the candidates this week, said Madan Lal Sharma would be fielded again in the Jammu-Poonch seat. For the Ladakh seat, the Congress is considering the names of Rigzin Spalbar, Tsering Sampel, Asghar Karbalai and Ghulam Raza. Suggested PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz is arriving Jammu on Wednesday to clear confusion over candidature of Udhampur-Doda Kathua seat. Soz will interact with party workers at Jammu. He will also hold interaction with senior leaders in connection with the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. |
