| Holi concludes with traditional Bhairon Devta's procession in Rajouri | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Mar 18: The seven days long Holi festival concluded here today with traditional Bhairon Devta's procession that was taken out all across the town. After the 'traditional 'Bhairon' procession on March 16 Sham Lal who used to play as Bhairon Devta developed some complications due to Pneumonia and was admitted in the hospital where he breathed his last at bout 11pm on Monday. To mourn the death of Sham Lal, Hindu community closed their business establishments/shops and attended his funeral. Every elder, specially youth and children were shocked over the untimely death of Sham Lal and were asking each others who will play the role of 'Bhairon" next year. It was a one over here know as to when the people started celebrating the festival in Rajouri city but people from all faiths take part in it though. Bhairon procession is being taken out after alternative days till the day of Holi. As a part of this festival a man who plays the role of Bhairon paints his body with black soot and paints using oils. He puts on a turban like thing on his head with a pony tail attached to the turban. This pony tail is called "Paranda" in local language. |
