| DC Rajouri imposes ban on carrying weapons in view of elections | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Mar 18: To ensure law and order for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections deputy commissioner (district magistrate) Rajouri has imposed ban on carrying the licensed weapons in the entire district. Not only those who have been issued licenses by the district Magistrate, but others who have obtained licenses from other states/districts/home department and living in Rajouri district have been asked to deposit their weapons with concerned police stations. This is first time in the history of the elections that all the licensed weapons holders have been asked to surrender the weapons with immediate effect. District Magistrate (deputy commissioner) Hemant Kumar Sharma ,IPS vide his office letter No JCDMR/SO-122-29/2014 have suspended all the arms licenses issued by his office in favor of residents of the district either valid for Rajouri district or for the State. As per reported information till March,18 about 290 weapons were surrendered by the people under the jurisdictions of Sunderbani, Kalakot, Nowshera and Dharamshal. "About 261licensed weapons have been deposited with the concerned police stations till Tuesday. Police is in process to intimate all the license holders to deposit their licensed weapons with concerned police stations and it was expected that soon all the weapons will be deposited" said Mubassar Latiffi district SP. The order of district Magistrate will remain enforced till the Lok Sabha polls are over.
