Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 18: Observing that change is imminent in Jammu and Kashmir, patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today termed the on-going Lok Sabha elections as an historic opportunity for the people to accelerate the campaign for change in the State.
"PDP- as credible and trusted voice of the people of the State, is leading the movement for change in Jammu and Kashmir", Mufti said while addressing a meeting of prominent Gujjar leaders from Nagrota, Samba and Gandhi Nagar Assembly segment. This meeting was organised by Hamid Chowdhary, coordinator Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat.
Terming Lok Sabha elections as trailer for the Assembly polls, Mufti asked the people to avail this opportunity to send credible and trustworthy representatives in the Parliament, who would represent their aspirations with sincerity and dedication. "PDP has fielded trustworthy, credible, tested and capable candidates who have enough potential to take up peoples' issue in the Parliament with conviction", he said and asked the people to compare PDP's candidates with nominees of other political parties.
Quoting some reports, Mufti pointed out that sitting Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from Jammu and Kashmir have failed to even utilize funds allotted to them under MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
"Some reports revealed that MPs of Jammu and Kashmir have failed to use more than Rs 33 crore under the MPLADS resulting in withholding of funds to the tune of more than Rs 41 crore by the Centre", he pointed out and regretted that failure of the sitting MPs to utilize funds reflects their casual approach towards mitigating woes of the masses.
"There is a need to elect those representatives who would serve the people with dedication and sincerity", he said and added that PDP's candidates have already proved their convictions and commitments towards solving peoples' problems. "We are contesting Lok Sabha elections to give voice to peoples' wishes and aspirations", he said, adding, "unlike other political parties our representatives would not maintain silence in Parliament over issues related to the State of Jammu and Kashmir".
"PDP wants to send tested and credible representatives in the Parliament to take up peoples' issue with conviction and commitment", he said while introducing party nominee Yash Pal Sharma to the workers. He said that Sharma, a crusader of communal harmony and brotherhood, has set an example of credible leadership in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
Mufti reiterated that attaining power was the only aim of PDP. "We want to bridge gap between different regions and to facilitate strengthening emotional relations among residents of all regions and sub-regions", he said.
Further reiterating resolve of his party to address aspirations of all sections of the society, he said that PDP has cemented relations between different regions and sub-regions of the state. Mufti said that since its formation PDP has been pursuing the agenda of unity to bridge the gap between different regions of the state.
"The PDP, through its policies, has succeeded in strengthening relations among different regions and sub-regions of the State", he said and added that PDP led regime has carved out a path of equitable development in the state.
"It was only during the PDP led regime that all regions of the State were political empowered and equal treatment was given to all areas in developmental and other activities", he said.
Listing problems being faced by the nomadic Gujjar-Bakerwal community, Mufti reminded that it was during PDP led regime that basic amenities like road, health centres, schools etc were proved where members of this community live. He reiterated committed of his party to properly rehabilitate Gujjar-Bakerwal community. Speaking on the occasion, Hamid Chowdhary assured PDP patron that Gujjars and Bakerwals would vote over-whelming in support of party candidates.
