| Under-utilization of MPLADS funds jeopardize development: Ch Hamid | | MPs breach trust of people | | Early Times report Jammu, Mar 18: Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Co-ordinator for Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency, Abdul Hamid Choudhary today said that majority of Members of Parliament (MPs) from Jammu and Kashmir have breached the trust of people and jeopardised development of far flung areas of State by underutilizing MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds meant for development of their respective constituencies. "The laxity on the part of Members of Parliament (MPs) of both the houses has not only forced central government to withhold Rs 41 crore but development in far off places of the state has also been marred, he said and added, "underutilization of funds by none other than union ministers of National Conference (NC) and Congress besides Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief are their sheer breach of trust with people and neglect of constitutional obligations." Ch Hamid urged people to access the credibility of these leaders who, without spending money meant for development of their respective constituencies, are seeing re-elections from Srinagar-Budgam, Kathua-Udhampur Lok Sabha seats and other Parliamentary constituencies including upper house. He said that a two time MP has even miserably failed his people by not spending MPLADS money in Kathua-Udhampur constituency. "Out of a total amount of Rs 154 crore released under MPLADS, MPs from Jammu and Kashmir could spend a little amount forcing Planning Commission of India to withhold grants of MPs from Jammu and Kashmir State. Similar has been the case with state MLAs who left about Rs 100 crore unspent since 2010. Had this amount been released the neglected areas of state could have seen massive development, he alleged. This kind of worst performance, he said has jeopardised the development in the state. He urged people to keep in mind these issues before voting in these parliamentary polls as well as coming assembly elections in the state. |
