| Let separatists abandon extra- territorial loyalties | | | If the Kashmiri separatists have conveyed greeting to Pakistan Government and its people in connection with its National day there should be neither any alarm in the nationalist circles nor any reason for sensible people and political leaders for feeling perturbed and intrigued. It is so because of the pull of proximity. The distance between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad is shorter than the distance between Srinagar and Mumbai. Besides the pull of proximity, the pull of religion is another f actor that has motivated these separatists to convey their greetings to Islamabad. They have been doing it in the past. They have started doing it with venom against India during the last over one decade. Such greetings should have caused no panic had these separatists been celebrating India's Independence day, or Republic day. And if these separatists have conveyed their felicitations to Islamabad on Pakistan's National day they have done so under the belief that Pakistan has been providing moral, material and diplomatic support to the people in Kashmir in their struggle for liberation. Felicitating the government and the people of Pakistan on the eve of its National day, leaders belonging to various separatist groups have expressed gratitude to them for extending political, moral and diplomatic support to Kashmir cause. Chairman, Hurriyat Conference (M), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has offered his warm greetings to the people and government of Pakistan on the eve of country's National Day. "On behalf of the people and collective leadership of Jammu and Kashmir, I extend gratitude to government and people of Pakistan for their continuous and unflinching support on political, moral and diplomatic level to Kashmiris in their quest for freedom. I am hopeful that this support will continue till the final settlement of the dispute on Kashmir," Mirwaiz has said in a statement. Expressing his happiness on the occasion of Pakistan Resolution Day, the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani prayed for the stability and safety of Pakistan. "Pakistan occupies a very important place in the Islamic world and it is the centre of passion and desire of every Muslim. Though Pakistan has some internal issues but until its ideology is protected for which this country was created, no power in the world can harm its geographical boundaries," Bold stand on the part of separatists.Brave ideas on the part of separatists in Kashmir. Alas ! weak understanding on their part. Have the separatists given a thought to what problems and difficulties were the result of what these separatists call diplomatic, moral and political support from Pakistan. Had these separatists spent an hour or two on evaluating gains and losses people in Jammu and Kashmir suffered during the last 25 years' of Pakistan sponsored insurgency they would have, by now, realized that this very support from agencies across the LOC and the IB had made lives of people miserable in Jammu and Kashmir. And it will not be wrong to say that this very diplomatic, material and moral support separatists received from Pakistan had been instrumental for death and destruction in Jammu and Kashmir. Are these separatists aware of a situation, created by Pakistan trained militants, in which over 47,000 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir lost their lives during the last 25 years ? Are these separatists aware of the fact that the basic infrastructure in the state had been hit hard resulting in poor growth in the sectors of tourism, horticulture, agriculture and industry? Are these separatists aware of a grim situation in which several thousand women have become destitute and widows in Kashmir and an equal number of boys and girls having become orphans? It seems separatists lack awareness of the ground realities. It is time these separatists abandoned pro-Pak feelings and become part of the national mainstream for the welfare of over a crore of people in Jammu and Kashmir. |
