| Life threat forces PG student to desert SKIMS | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 24: Facing a threat to his life from police, a PG first year student of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura has taken refuge in Jammu for last over one month and is not attending the institute since then. According to sources Sandeep Kumar, a PG student from Kishtwar who is undergoing PG first year training in SKIMS is facing a threat from police for last over one month and sensing the trouble he left the Valley institute in the middle of February and since then did not resume his duties. According to Dr Kumar, on February 21 evening six policemen three in Mufti and three in plain clothes intruded in his room at Medical Institute Hostel during late night hours when the medico was not in his room. They picked up his brother and asked him to give whereabouts of his brother and produce him before the Nehru Park Police Station. However, sensing trouble the harassed PG student approached the Director of the Institute to know about the reasons of the police action. The director, however failed to ascertain the reasons and he took up the issue with Police Station, Soura. However, Soura police out-rightly said that there is no case registered against the medico in the Police Station. However, later the authorities maintained that it was the work of a police officer from Jammu posted at Srinagar who had deputed the police team to Medical Institute for harassing the Medico as the officer had some personal enmity with the doctor. The Medico facing a constant threat is unable to report back in the institute since then. The Medico has also sent a notice to institute through his advocate and the authorities are tight lipped over the action. The authorities admitting that the medico is facing threat said that they have written the higher ups for the migration of the medico to Jammu in relaxation of rules as under MCI rules there is no provision for such migration from one institute to another for PG students. ``The medico is facing threat as some police men have trooped in his room last month to arrest him.' But we have come to know that the action was on the basis of a personal enmity of the medico and sensing the trouble the authorities have approached higher ups in the Government for his migration to any other institute outside Valley, '' said the authorities. |
