| Blood Platelets Apheresis Machine at GMCH obsolete for years | | Dabgotra holds protest | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 24: Som Nath Dabgotra Chairman Dabgotra Charitable Trust today criticizing GMCH administration for not replacing obsolete Apheresis Machine for years together. Addressing media persons after protest outside GMCH on Monday, Dabgotra said that lackadaisical approaches of hospital management were not meeting the expectation of the public. He also burnt effigy of Health and Medical Education Minister Taj Mohi-ud-din. "Platelets Apheresis machine is not working in GMCH Jammu from very long time. Blood Bank department was raided by Drug Control department and they saw enough space not available and cancel their license. Hospital Administration says they don't have 50X50 Space for this machine but one the other side state Health and Medical Education Minister Taj-Mohi-ud-din has its office inside GMCH premises", he said. "The GMCH administration can give 2500 square feet space to private players without rent initially for 10 years under PPP mode but they can't provide space to their own Platelets Apheresis machine", he wondered. He further said that inspite of availability of component machine in GMCH, the patients have to at SMGS. "The Apheresis machine installed at SMGS produce 5000 platelets against each unit of blood, while obsolete machine laying in GMCH has potential to produce 60,000 platelets against one unit of blood", he said, adding that a donor could donate blood after 15 days if he donates blood by Platelets Apheresis but if he has donated via SMGS machine, for another donation he has to wait for three months. When contacted HOD Blood Bank, DrVijay Sawhney said that since the machine has been outdated, it could not be repaired. However, he said that soon the machine would be replaced. "The hospital management has placed order for procurement of new machine, it is likely to be installed in the mid of April", he added.
