CM's coterie within NC decimates senior leadership
Beyond Omar's sermons for BJP

Jammu, Mar 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's jibes against BJP over denying mandate to its senior leader Jaswant Singh has been taken with a pinch of salt by several senior leaders within his own party.
These senior party functionaries are questioning in private the astronomical rise of his chosen few within the party and orchestrated decimation of some prominent senior leaders who had invested their blood and sweat in the party.
It is ironical that while Omar has been questioning BJP over alleged marginalization of its senior leadership within the party, the meteoric rise of the likes of Devender Rana and Nasir Aslam Wani, both of whom have now been made provincial presidents of the party is being questioned by NC's own rank and file. Both Rana and Wani, though out of the Government have assumed power and stature to influence vital administrative and political decisions in Jammu and Kashmir regions respectively.
The rise of Omar's coterie has interestingly coincided with the political asphyxiation of several senior party leaders. Aslam Goni, the old party loyalist was disgraced to the extent that he was impelled to walk out of the party he served for decades. Many believe Goni became the victim of Rana's political ambition and undue and unwarranted support of the Chief Minister.
Similarly, in Kashmir, the most diehard loyalist of the party, Mohamad Syed Akhoon, who kept the NC flag fluttering in the valley even when Abdullahs hibernated in London during years of peak militancy, is today lost in complete oblivion. "Akhoon, who was once considered to be close to senior Abdullah even forfeited his Assembly constituency to Farooq, but the promise of a berth in State Legislative Council made to him was never honoured," said a senior office bearer of the party pleading anonymity.
While NC's 'young turks' systematically marginalized the senior leadership within the party under 'Young' CM's patronage, Omar's moral lectures to his political adversaries sound hilarious.
