Kishtwar, Doda face heavenly fury
Continuous rain, snow leave several houses damaged, road links snapped

Jammu, Mar 24: Continuous unseasonal rain and snow have rubbed salt in the wounds of the poor residents of twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar as their dwellings that suffered the brunt of series of earth quakes in the area last year have been further weakened forcing the residents to abandon them in the hostile weather.
Government has failed to come to the rescue of these common people in the need of the hour and much needed help is being denied to the effected people in the name of Model Code of Conduct which is otherwise violated by the political class with impunity.
The government as well as the administration have even failed to come to the rescue of 2013 earthquake victims and surrendered the relief fund meant for earthquake victims. The government as well as the administration of the Doda and Kishtwar Districts is now just acting as a mute spectator as the poor rural peasantry is seeking compensation for damaged houses.
Several people hailing from different parts of Doda and Kishtwar District apprised the "Early Times" about their plights and shared their anger. "My house suffered creaks in last year earthquake, now due to continuous rain and snowfall--- the water entered through these cracks and damaged it" said a resident of Mulchitar Chatroo. He said that many houses in his village either got collapsed or had become unsafe for inhabitation.
A group of Sarpanches of Chatroo block of district Kishtwar also called on DC Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan few days ago with the request to the state government and the administration to take immediate measures to ensure relief and rehabilitation of those who suffered.
They regretted that collapse of residential houses had rendered several families homeless, but added that requisite steps have not been taken by the government to provide shelter to the affected families.
Meanwhile, the continuous bad weather conditions have created chaos and public outcry which necessitates government action and rehabilitation measures on war footing. The roads leading to rural areas of Doda and Kishtwar District are in deplorable condition and have been badly damaged. The condition of Jammu-Doda-Kishtwar National Highway is also in shambles.
There is also a dearth of essential commodities like Sugar, Kerosene Oil, Wheat, Rice, vegetables and other essential commodities in rural areas of these twin Districts, but faulty electric transformers and transmission line has also added to miseries as in some areas, the electricity supply was yet to be restored since last nearly two to three weeks and required immediate attention from the local administration and the government.
