'Neck to neck' contest to be witnessed in five of six LS seats in J&K
3/24/2014 9:38:12 PM
Jammu: After Jamait-e-Islami announced that its activists, supporters and workers will stay away from 'separatists call for poll boycott' may evoke some response from the Kashmir valley, the reports said that five of the six Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir will not be a cake-walk win for contesting candidates including two from the three constituencies in the valley. Field reports indicated that following the jamait -e-Islami 's sidelining from 'poll boycott' parties that manage to motivate voters to walk to the polling booths on the polling days in the Kashmir valley may have better chances for a win than those which leave it to the choice of voters. Another important development that may be witnessed from five of the six Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir is that it will not be a cake-walk win for any candidate contesting from the three constituencies in the valley and from two constituencies in the Jammu region. Reports indicate that it is going to be a neck and neck contest in the five constituencies in Jammu region and the valley. It is so because this time the NC candidates are facing a tough fight from the PDP in the three constituencies in the valley. As far as the Jammu and Udhampur constituencies are concerned the contest is primarily a triangular one though more than half a dozen candidates are in the field. According to these reports, the two seats in the Jammu region may witness a tough fight among the candidates belonging to the BJP, the Congress and the PDP. What is interesting is that the state has not, so far, witnessed any wave. It is neither pro-NC nor pro-PDP nor pro-Congress wave. Despite the claim of the BJP leaders that they see a Modi wave blowing in the Jammu region, the state is yet to experience any Modi wave. "Yes his impact can be felt in some pockets in the districts of Jammu, Kathua and Samba, sources said. The Election authorities have already directed the state authorities and the Union Home Ministry to deploy sufficient companies of police and paramilitary forces for ensuring incident free election in the state. These authorities do not feel bothered about booth capturing or exchange of gunfire between supporters of rival candidates but these authorities keep their fingers crossed over the possible hike in the level of militancy related activities and violence. Official sources said that adequate security arrangements were being provided for ensuring incident free polling and for preventing militants from disrupting poll rallies and electioneering.
