| Son of former minister in Vajpayee Govt to contest against BJP candidate | | Files nomination papers from Udhampur-Doda seat | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Jammu, Mar 24 : Former Vice President BJP Anil Gupta and son of Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, former Minister of State for Defense in Vajpayee led NDA government and rebel MLA of BJP from Jammu today filed his nomination paper from Khatua-Udhampur-Doda parliamentary seat. Despite inclement weather, President of newly formed political party JKDF Anil Gupta supporters assembled in large number at Kathua and marched towards DC Office nomination papers were filed against BJP candidate Dr. Jatinder Singh. Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is also a candidate from this seat and will file his nomination papers tomorrow. Though political fight on Kathua-Udhampur-Doda parliamentary seat is between BJP and Congress, but candidates like Anil Gupta can play a spoil spot for BJP in this battle line divided with narrow and thin winning lines. Even though BJP decided to cancel the termination of 6 party MLA'ssuspended in wake of aftermath of cross voting scandal, the party leadership preferred not to revoke membership of veteran leader Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, who has now come in open support for his son and can play a major role in denting the vote bank of BJP both on Jammu seat on which BJP State President Jughal Kishore Sharma is party candidate and Jammu West Assembly segment represented by rebel Chaman Lal Gupta falls in Jammu-Poonch as well as on Kathua-Udhampur-Doda parliamentary seat. Anil Gupta who was busy in poll campaign across Khatua-Udhampur-Doda parliamentary seat is seeking vote from the people on the developmental works carried out by his father as two time MP and as a minister in Vajpayee government, beside on issues like Dogra unity and creation of VDC's/SPO's during tenure of his father as minister. Insider in BJP informed the Early Times that some senior BJP leaders at national level makes some efforts to reach out to Chaman Lal Gupta and his son, but the same was blocked by some influential leaders of the state. Though the BJP insiders condone Gupta's threat to BJP vote bank in parliamentary election, but nothing can be ruled out in president situation when the contest between BJP's Dr. Jatindra Singh and Congress's Azad is divided by a thin line and could go either way. |
