| Gulmarg, other heights experience snowfall, rain in plains in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 24: World famous ski resort of Gulmarg and other heights experienced fresh snowfall today while plains, including summer capital, Srinagar had rains since early this morning resulting in chilly condition. However, barring border town of Kargil in Ladakh region, the minimum temperature was above normal. A Met department spokesman said as Western Disturbance (WD) has hit the region, there could be rain or snow in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. After rains since early this morning, it started snowing, a hotel owner said over phone from Gulmarg, much to the delight of tourists and skiers, who otherwise were not expecting snowfall during this period of the season. Khilanmarg, Affarwat and Kongdori besides other areas, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) also experienced fresh snowfall. Kargil continued to freeze as the minimum temperature was recorded minus 4.8 degrees Celsius while at Leh it was 1.1 degrees, he said. Reports of snowfall was also received from holy Amarnath cave shrine, Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Pisso top and Panjterni, traditional yatra route while at Pahalgam and plains in south Kashmir rain lashed since this morning. Life was badly affected in the summer capital, Srinagar, due to rains since last night resulting in chilly conditions. Majority areas were again inundated due to faulty driange system, evoking protests at several places. |
