| One killed, three injured in Reasi landslides, houses damaged in Budgam | | Inclement weather affects life across State | | Early Times report Reasi/Budgam, Mar 24: As the weather has once again changed its moods and fresh snowfall and heavy rains across the state one person was killed and three others were seriously injured in a landslide after heavy rainfall at Daman in Dharmari in Mahore Sub-Division Reasi while over a dozen houses were reportedly damaged in Frestwar village of Khansahib of Budgam in Kashmir today. According to official reports from Reasi, one Nazia Akhter (18) d/o Mohiuddin died on the spot when trapped in a landslide in Dharmari of Mahore while three others sustained injuries. "The injured identified namely as Puja Devi d/o Raghunath Singh, Jameela Begum w/o Bashir Ahmed and Jan begum w/o Mohd Shafi have been immediately shifted to district hospital Reasi, reports said. The official said that Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Mahore Ashwani Kumar Khajuria along with team rushed to the spot for rescue and relief operations soon after the reports about landslides were received. Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner (DC) Reasi has provided relief of Rs 1.50 lakhs in case of the death and also relief of Rs 5000 each was provided to the injured. He also has directed SDM Mahore to lodge an FIR in the matter and inquire if there is any negligence on part of Border Road Organization (BRO). Meanwhile the recent hostility of weather has added to miseries of people in valley as many houses have been totally damaged not only due to heavy snowfall but due to the continuous landslides in many areas of Kashmir valley especially upper reaches of Budgam. Reports said in Frestwar of Khansahib in Budgam alone as many as one dozen houses have completely collapsed due to submersion of land. "Five houses belonging to Gujjar community in Jingoo Mohalla have completely damaged and till date no alternate accommodation had been provided to them, reports said and alleged that the administration yet has not provided any tents or blankets to the victims. "Not only this even the senior district officials haven't visited our village, " said a local resident Javaid Ahmad Jingoo "Had the authorities undertaken snow clearance in the area under MNREGA the situation would have not been so bad. Our area is without power and water for the last one month and the authorities at helms of affairs are least bothered, " lamented one Abdul Rashid from the locality. |
