With NC headquarter among major defaulters; PDD harasses common masses
Meter readers facilitating power thefts

Srinagar, Mar 25 : National Conference Head quarter 'Nawai Subah' in Srinagar which is among major power defaulters of Rs 11.49 lakh to the Power Development Department (PDD) and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah himself holding Power Ministry, PDD officials in Kashmir are harassing common masses to pay fee and disconnecting connections without prior notice.
As PDD employees at the close of financial year in North and South Kashmir according to sources are pushed hard by higher ups to meet the deadline set, however consumers hailing from many villages of North Kashmir's Baramulla District and Shopipan of south kahsmi informed Early Times that PDD employees are harassing them and indulging in corruption. Dozens of people in Shopian who protested outside Deputy Commissioner's office today alleged that PDD employees have created fake agreements without any consent of consumers and are severing connections of consumers without prior notices. "I live in joint family with my father and my claim can be cross checked by going through revenue records, ration card proof etc but PDD employees have created fake agreement by using my name, address etc without my consent are demanding power revenue as per their will" said Bashir Ahmad. People living in main town Shopian said that PDD employees who have been authorized to collect fee and record meter readings have devised a new system of corruption in which people who pay them bribe at the time of meter reading are put in the list of 'minimum power user households' and such households are also allowed to use illegal power connections while as people who deny them bribe are charged as per their will and wish. Gulzar Ahmad Zargar of Kanli-Bagh, North Kashmir's Baramulla District who has been handed over a Bill of Rupees 35,000 while talking to Early Times said that PDD employees have created a fake agreement on his name without his consent and knowledge and is now asked to pay fee or bear consequences. "Agreement in all respects is a fake as I was not even informed when this agreement has been created and neither from last one year I was ever asked to pay fee by PDD employees."Said Gulzar Ahmad.
At a time when common masses are forced to pay power fee and are devoid basic necessity of life in case any kind of resistance is shown as per reports, Ruling National Conference headquarter at Nawai Subah Srinagar is among the 148 power defaulters of state with pending payments of over R 10 lakh. As per reports out of rupees 59 crore owed to the department, BSNL, NHPC, BSF, JKTDC, luxurious place of Minister and Bureaucrats, Royal Spring Golf Course in Srinagar, MES are among the major defaulters with power arrears amounting over s 10 lakh each and despite recently two week deadline was given to all these major defaulters, However as per reports defaulters are yet to pay their hefty pending power Bills. Mean while despite repeated attempts throughout the day chief Engineer PDD Kashmir did not pick up the phone.
