JAMMU, Mar 25: In order to project complete harmony and execute its commitment of full support to its ally Congress, rank and file of National Conference in Jammu led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made themselves present in full strength when Ghulam Nabi Azad filed his nomination papers for Doda -Udhampur Parlia-mentary seat today at Kathua. NC cadres and workers down the line were seen more enthusiastic and in cheering mode amid celebrations by the Congress workers and Azad's supporters. Today's scene was a repeat of euphoria in NC rank and file witnessed few days back when Madan Lal Sharma, Congress' candidate for Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary seat filed his nomination papers in presence of CM at Jammu. What makes NC rank and file enthusiastic and energetic, more than the Congress itself for two seats of Jammu.....?
Sources said despite some disturbing reports of open revolt expressed by certain Congress leaders in Baramulla against NC and its candidate Sharif-u-Din Shariq, National Conference leadership is not letting this development impact the zeal and momentum of National Conference for two seats of Jammu in favour of Congress. In what can be seen as deviating from the past conduct after such political trends on part of ally Congress, NC leadership is conducting itself in a normal manner apparently in a bid to keep the ties and harmony intact, rather in strong bonds with the Congress. While the overwhelming response of NC as a party in having put itself in the fast gear to garner support for Congress candidates is surprising everyone, Chief Minister and the NC high command is believed to be adopting this strategy for seeking bigger goals and interests, said the sources.
Sources within the NC also said that clear cut directions have come from the high command to all- right from front line leaders down the functionaries, Ministers, legislators and cadres to put in their best of efforts to help Congress in all possible ways. Even a sort of warning has been issued that anyone not toeing this line or found not following these directions won't be allowed to remain in party anymore, sources said adding that it is this direction which is making every leader gear up in every constituency and seek support for Congress. Sources said while NC has realized that Congress is in deep trouble for some reasons and faced with challenging situation in certain pockets, it is trying to act as trouble shooter for the candidates even though the leaders of NC are not sure whether their hardwork and efforts would get translated into success for the Congress. However, as NC too finds itself in similar challenging situation on three seats of Kashmir, it is also banking upon heavily for Congress support in some constituencies which is why it is putting in more efforts than Congress cadres and leaders in Jammu province.
