| Principal never visited hospital kitchen, wards | | GMCH serves substandard food to patients | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 25: More skeletons have tumbled out of the cupboard of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu. A grave irregularity has come to fore. The patients are served substandard food. Paradoxically, Dr Shashi Gupta has never visited hospital's kitchen since she assumed charge of principal GMCH. Well placed sources told Early Times that substandard and unhygienic food is being served to the patients for a long time which is a cruel joke with those recuperating in the hospital as well as a health hazard for them since a speedy recovery needs a balanced and nutritious diet but the hospital authorities have failed to ensure quality food. "Principal office is receiving complaints from patients, as unhygienic diet is being served them. But madam (Principal) has not bothered to pay surprise visit in kitchen. Being head of the institution it is Principal's duty to check what is happening in the hospital", said an insider, adding that even the principal never visited wards. "To sensitize the patients and hospital members, the principal has also not visited the wards. Where patients face difficulties, to clashes between staff and attendants of patients--principal has to create friendly environment", said an official, adding that since madam (Dr Shashi Gupta) took over charge of principal, she prefers to stay in her office. Cursed by stars! A woman who does not go to the kitchen is cursed by the stars. Thus goes the Kashmiri adage. So as long as Dr Shashi remains the principal, the situation is not going to improve. God alone can help the patients who have been at the receiving end because the Government does not work in this neglected land. |
