| Pesticides - Fertilizer mafia attacks President Fruit Growers Association | | Orchardists to register protest | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, Apr 2: The pesticide-fertilizer dealers mafia attacked President Fruit Growers Association of South Kashmir's Shopian District Mushtaq Ahmad Malik at home near Malik Mohalla Main town Shopian.
"At around 12:00 am today a group of pesticides and fertilizer Distributors attacked my home and broke all the window panes, abused my family publically and threatened to kill me if I continued agitating against sale of substandard pesticides and fertilizers, " said Mushtaq Ahmad, President fruit growers association While talking to early times Malik said the attack is the result of curb on sale of substandard pesticides and fertilizers by common masses.
Malik said the dealers are in nexus with a politically backed group.
Malik said that this Mafia who over the years succeeded in earning crores of rupees by employing all the evil and foul means.
"Distributors and all such people out of frustration are now attacking people like him as he belongs to a group who are up against sale and purchase of substandard pesticides and fertilizers,".
Pertinent to mention that despite protest demonstrations of orchardists and lot of media attention on the issue, open sale and
purchases of substandard pesticides and fertilizers is at its peak these days. The orchardists have reported 90% apple production of B and C Grade due to use of substandard pesticides and fertilizers, Department of Agriculture expressed helplessness by arguing that pesticides and fertilizers available in the market do not fall in the insecticide act of India 1968 and they cannot seize and stop people from dealing with it.
Meanwhile police arrested some distributors in connection with the attack on Malik. The Station House officer Shopian, M uzaffar Ahmad said that an investigation in the matter has been started and they are trying to solve the matter as soon as possible. |
