| Why isn't NC taking action against Sakina Itoo ? | | Misusing religion for achieving political goals | | Early Times Report

It is more than a week since the video showing NC's leader and Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo was forcing an old man to swear on Quran for showing his loyalty towards National Conference. Till date the National Conference leadership has failed to take action against the Minister.
The cross section of society have shown serious criticism towards this move of the NC Minister and even various political parties of state including Bhartiya Janata Party, Panthers Party, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)has taken a strong note of the video which has went viral on social networking sites wherein NC leader Sakina Itoo has been forcing an old man to swear on holy "Quran" for ensuring his allegiance to National Conference.
"it has been a policy of NC to cheat the poor people of Kashmir and emotionally blackmail them especially at the time of elections by misusing the religion. Everybody knows that how NC leaders even in the past have emotionally blackmailed Kashmiris by showing them Pakistani rock salt and green cloth and such trend has not ended and still continues to be there " said AAP leader Dr Tanveer Dar who is also AAP candidate from Anantnag parliamentary seat
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lodged a formal complaint against Sakina Itoo, with the Election Commission of India (ECI), for trying to coax and coerce people to join her party and vote for it by invoking religion. Terming the issue as a major violation of Model Code of Conduct, the party has urged the ECI to take note of it.
The party Chief Spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar had earlier said a video that has gone viral in the social networking site including Facebook shows the Minister and few of her supporters, compelling an old man to support her in the coming election. He said the issue is very
sensitive in nature and it has been brought to the notice of ECI that how cheap tricks are being employed by the NC leaders to buy support.
The letter has pointed out that the minister and her associates are invoking Holy Quran and the affirmation of Muslim faith to seek the support of people shown in the video. They are clearly trying to force the people to swear by Quran and their Muslim faith that they would support and vote for the NC candidates, the letter reads further.
"It is not the first time that the NC leaders have adopted such
methods to engage the electorate in their favor but in the past also they have brazenly misused the religion to exploit people. The action is a brazen violation of the Model Code of Conduct and would clearly call for a serious view by the commission and action against the minister and the party she belongs to" said Fayaz Ahmad a resident of Srinagar. We fail to understand why the NC leadership has failed to take disciplinary action against the Minister? Fayaz added.
