| 2 weeks time granted to file objections over plea for protected status to 'Dewan Mandir' | | | Jammu, Apr 14 (JNF): A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by President and Two Members of Executive Committee of Dewan Mandir Society seeking Dewan Mandir to be declared as Protected Monument u/s 3 of Ancient Monument, the Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar granted two weeks time to file objections in this regard. In the PIL it has been submitted that the Dewan Mandir is an ancient temple which had been constructed in the year 1897 by one Dewan Jawala Sahib and deities of Laxmi Naryan were installed there. The temple has huge property which has been spreaded over kanals of land. It has a 70 shops approximately, the cost of each shop is near about Rs 25.00 Lakh and this temple has a huge hall in which Ram Leela is performed every year. The Temple was given to Dewan Jwala Shahay and Pujaries were appointed for the maintenance of temple. The temple has its own history and has been discussed in various books but presently the temple property is being destroyed and some part of it is being encroached and a portion of temple property has been converted into parking by Jammu Development Authority. There is no maintenance of the temple property by Jammu Municipal Corporation and the JDA. The Deputy Commissioner has been approached many times but he never visited the temple and nothing has been done so far for the maintenance of the temple property by him and no Mohitmin has been appointed for the temple and seeking temple should be declared as Protected Monument U/S 3 of the Ancient Monument Act, 1904. Division Bench also observed that objections by other respondents except State and Union of India have been filed and AAG Seema Shekhar appearing for the state seeking time to file objection and granted two weeks time to file objections. |
