GANDERBAL, Apr 14: Two National Conference Ministers were forced to change the venue of their election meeting at village Butwani in Ganderbal district by people yesterday from the Government High School Butwani to a party worker's residence in the village after the people of the area took serious exception to making the school as a venue of election meeting by the NC Ministers by misusing their official position.
According to sources NC had organised an election meeting in the village Butwani near here and Minister of Higher Education, Mohammed Akbar Lone who represents the neighbouring Sumbal Constituency in the State Assembly and Minister of Forests, Mian Altaf who represents another neighbouring constituency of Kangan in the Assembly had to beat a hasty retreat after people protested.
Sensing trouble, the venue was shifted to the residence of the Party activist in the village but entire furniture and desks and tables were taken from the School for seating of Party activists and other delegates.
This was also viewed seriously by the villagers and residents of other localities who have sought the intervention of the Election Commission in the matter and action against the two Ministers for violating the Model Code of Conduct, sources said. The people of the area including the activists of J&K People’s Conference (JKPC) who had also convened a public meeting in the area have written to EC seeking action against the two Ministers, sources added.
JKPC leaders Mir Ghulam Rasool and Farooq Ahmed Farooqi while addressing the party activists later said that NC has always played with the sentiments of the people of the State for remaining in power by hook or by crook.
He said Congress played a dirty game in Kashmir since 1947 and it created a barrier between Kashmiris and India through its wrong policies just to please a political clan in the Valley. Now not only people of Kashmir but entire India have seen through the game plan of Congress and NC which was nothing except promoting dynastic rule for decades together, he added.
Mir asked people to join hands and defeat the designs of those forces that are wearing the mask of secularism and exploiting the sentiments of people for their vested interests.
