| Ahmad Nagar encounter ends with death of 2 foreign militants, 2 police cops injured | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Apr 14: The 22 hour long encounter in the Ahmad Nagar-Buchpora area in the outskirts here culminated in the evening with the death of two foreign militants. Two police cops also sustained injuries during the encounter with two houses suffering extensive damages in the firefight. Reports said that police received information about the presence of two militants in the Ahmad Nagar area on the 90 feet road. The area was immediately cordoned off and a siege was laid around the area along with some adjacent localities. Nobody was either allowed to enter the area or leave the area. The encounter last evening started when the militants hiding in two houses fired upon the advancing party of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. The encounter carried on during the whole night and the two militants engaged police and CRPF personnel late in the afternoon today as well. The slain militants were identified as Chota Hafiz and Abu Huzaifa. Both of them are said to be foreigners and owed their allegiance to the Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit. Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from the possession of the slain militants. The siege was lifted from the area only after the encounter ended in the late afternoon. Two houses belonging to Abdul Majeed Rangrez and Mukhtar Ahmad suffered extensive damages as they caught fire during the gun-fight between the militants and the security forces as well as police party. A police spokesman said that on Sunday evening on specific information an operation was launched in Ahmad Nagar-Buchpora area by Police, CRPF and SSB. The spokesman said that Police evacuated the people, while zeroing in on a house. "In the initial assault one policeman was injured. Three persons including the land lord and land lady were evacuated and rescued this morning. In this encounter two militants got killed. The slain militants have been identified as Abu Huzaifa and Chota Hafiz of LeT outfit. One policeman also got injured today," said the police spokesman. The spokesman said that some arms and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site. In the meantime police and security forces have started search operations in a village in South Kashmir's Pulwama district in order to track down one of the prominent militant commanders operating in the entire South Kashmir range. Reports said that searches have been started in the Hassanwani village of Pulwama district after inputs were received by police and security forces that a top militant commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba, Moulvi Bilal is hiding in the village along with some of his associates. |
