Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 14: BJP is in real trouble as its position on the ground is getting weaker by the day on Doda-Udhampur Parliamentray constituency. With just three days left for elections on this constituency, party's key man having significant grip and influence in a number of segments is elusive in terms of contributing to raise pitch of canvassing. Dr Nirmal Singh who is out in Ladakh has yet to lend any help to party candidate and so are his large number of supporters in passive mode, leaving the field much smooth and easy for an already predicted winner Ghulam Nabi Azad on this seat. New to constituency and people, party's candidate is struggling , all by himself as rest of the leaders and cadres too have fallen silent, some of them in different directions, lacking a cohesive and coordinated approach in tandem with the candidate which could have given a robust challenge to Congress and others in fray. Sources said Dr Nirmal Singh who was denied ticket by the central leadership despite being strongest contender is conducting in a way which reflects on proverbial lines of paying in same coin. Though he was tipped as one of key leaders in the poll campaign committee, his role at least for this constituency has not been seen on the ground nor has he accompanied the leaders , not to speak of candidate to any rally or road show. For the last so many days he is camping in Ladakh said the sources, contrary to the fact his presence was of utter use and importance in the areas which he has nourished over the years.Sources further said despite party high command having struck a 'deal' with him in terms of accommodating 'suitably' in Assembly elections this year, Dr Nirmal Singh is yet to come to terms , rather reconcile to reality that despite being strongest aspirant he has been denied ticket, and therefore his resentment is not at all over.
On the other hand, party's candidate has been left alone to grapple with challenges posed not only by all powerful and far more stronger candidate from the rival candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad, sources said further. The challenges are multifold, also in terms of treacherous and hilly terrains dominating this constituency where Ghulam Nabi Azad is very popular and acceptable to voters, sources added. While BJP's candidate has almost been left alone by the party in many ways to garner support and votes even in areas where BJP wields influence, his task is getting tougher for the fact he himself is new and not so known a figure in majority of the areas. Sources said while he is continuing with the schedule of rallies and working hard, his struggle and pitch of canvassing is confined only to Modi wave, a factor which may not work wonders for the party in this constituency.
