JAMMU, Apr 14: To commemorate 124th birthday of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, a function was organised by the Jammu University SC/ST Employees Association in Press Club, Jammu here, today. Association President R.L. Kaith said Dr Ambedkar was a great national leader of twentieth century. He was an intellectual scholar and statesman who contributed greatly in the nation building. General Secretary Om Parkash said that Dr Ambedkar was a literary genius and an eminent educationist, a dynamic personality and an illustrious architect of our Constitution. He had been awarded the Ph.D, D.Lit, LL.D, D.Sc, & Bar-at-Law degrees. But quite apart from them, he carried on researches and wrote a number of books, papers and articles. On the occasion, the Association presented 'Dr B.R. Ambedkar Award' to Engineer H.R. Phonsain recognition of his constant and valuable services that he has rendered to promote and advance the education of public in the teachings of Baba Saheb. Association members said that a proposal to set up 'Dr B.R. Ambedkar Chair' in the University of Jammu was agreed to in principle by the Academic Council in 2008 but unfortunately not a single step has yet been taken by the University to set up the said chair. Association members appealed their present Vice-Chancellor Professor MPS Ishar to kindly pay attention towards the matter. Prominent among others who participated in the function included Retd. Bench Secretary, J&K High Court, Advocate Ashok Kumar Bassotra, Dr. Chander Shekhar, Dr. Tirath Ram, Dr. V.K. Shivgotra, Dr. Parshotam Kumar, Dr. Rakesh Attri, Dr. Parmodh Kumar Singh, Surinder Kumar Shavotra, Rattan LalLalotra, Dharam Pal, Mohan Lal, Kartar Chand, Sukhdev Bhagat, Kunj Lal Bhagat Rajesh Kumar Chalotra, Vijay Kumar, Janak Raj, Hakikat Anmol, Vinay Attri and Sunil Kumar Loach. |
