4/23/2014 11:37:47 PM
Srinagar, Apr 23: A day ahead of polling, multiple stone pelting attacks on paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force troopers in South Kashmir's volatile Pulwama town were reported Wednesday.
Reports said at least eight troopers were injured while a dozen of CRPF vehicles got damaged in three different stone-hurling attacks in the town, some 36 kms from Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar. Scores of vehicles carrying troopers left for Sambora in Pamar form Pulwom Stadium during afternoon hours.
Eyewitnesses said scores of youth attacked the convoy near Kakapur which caused damage to many vehicles. The news agency said CRPF exercised maximum restraint even as four troopers were injured in the attack. Reports said when the convoy reached Pahoo bridge youth again attacked it and smashed the windshields of the vehicles.
Eyewitnesses said at least three troopers were injured in the attack. Reports said that CRPF escaped from the bridge.
They said the convoy came under attack again at Sambora, however, this time troopers resorted to aerial firing to disperse the youth. The aerial firing according to locals created panic in the area. A top officer said eight troopers were injured and 12 of their vehicles got damaged in these three attacks. CRPF spokesperson Kishor Prasad said he would confirm about the attacks. Station House Officer Pampar, Amit Kumar said that few youth tried to pelt stones of CRPF vehicles but they did not resorted to aerial firing.
