| BJP shows 'seriousness' for Srinagar seat to keep its flag aloft | | Leadership faltered in 'screening' of candidates | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 23: Notwithstanding the fact that its candidate has no locus standi on political waters of the constituency nor has an iota of chance to register vote bank, BJP is using all its resources to the hilt for the Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary seat. This, despite the fact that mandate to the present candidate is also embroiled in wraps of controversies for one or the other reason, even as the party substituted the earlier one whose name was also appendaged with certain controversial remarks following which the leadership withdrew him from contest. This is a price party is paying through nose just for the purpose of registering presence in electoral exercise in Kashmir valley. Party sources said that leadership is pumping more money and utilizing all possible resources for enabling its candidate to campaign and canvass in all nook and corners of the constituency even though it knows well that managing votes is as hard as making the people accept that BJP candidate is in fray as a nationalist party symbol in Kashmir valley.Party is liberal in many ways , perhaps more than magnanimous for Jammu region with regard to expenditure etc, just because it wants to keep its flag and symbol aloft along with other parties across Kashmir Valley. Sources said party's keenness to do so turned into a sort of desperation this time which is why the leadership fumbled and faltered in making right choice of candidates, though not for electoral victory. While it changed earlier candidate shortly after his name invited sharp criticism from all sides, the second choice of the candidate has also not gone so well in political circles as there are certain issues for which his image and name is under accusations from rivals. Sources said his name was once raked up by one of the Congress MLCs during the Budget session and the allegations were pointed against the NGO he is running in Kashmir. During the course of campaigning, Congress while supporting NC candidate hits at the BJP candidate , more so under the criticism loaded against Narender Modi. Sources said the party is not in a position to dissociate , albeit it is not defending the candidate for whatever criticism he is facing. Sources said party's hardwork and some amount of seriousness for contesting in Kashmir may augur well for preparing for the Assembly elections, but its primary task at that remains on screening of the candidates it will choose for various segments. |
