Restoring Article 370 to its original position
Congress, NC on the same page

JAMMU, Apr 23: Cat is out of the bag. Senior Congress leader and former Cabinet Minister, Abdul Gani Vakil, on Tuesday had left none in any doubt that the Congress and the NC are on the same bed and that both the parties are out for a regime that limits the jurisdiction of New Delhi over Jammu & Kashmir to just three subjects - foreign affairs, defence and and communication - and empowers the Kashmiri leadership to not only enjoy unbridled legislative, executive and financial powers but also empowers it to re-establish in the state a local oligarchy, with common people having no right in the governance of the state. This is not going to happen.
Gone are the days when the outfits like the Congress and the NC could play mischief to create a wall of hatred between the state and New Delhi. They failed in the past and they will fail in the future as well, as the situation in the country has changed and the nation committed to defeating the negative forces as represented by the Congress and the NC. Besides, the people of Jammu and Ladakh are very much there to puncture the separatist balloon of the Congress-NC combine.
What did he say while addressing party workers' meeting at Rafiabad while commenting on the stand of the BJP on Article 370? He said the Congress was committed to strengthen Article 370 and would oppose any move to dilute it.
"Some political parties trying to weaken or erode the Article's provisions are actually inimical to peace and tranquility. The Congress will fight for the Article inside as well as outside the Parliament. It is the duty of common masses to discourage the parties like BJP having agenda of dividing the country on religious lines and maintain the Mahatama's dream of secular India…The voters need to identify such forces in elections at their own level to protect the sovereignty of this nation," he said.
The meaning of what he said was as clear as crystal and what he said established beyond any shadow of doubt that the Congress and the NC are two sides of one and the same coin and that both the coalition partners are all out to weaken the centre-state ties in their desperate bid to appease their communal constituency in the Kashmir Valley. It is important to underline the statement of Vakil on Article 370. He says the Congress wants to strength this pernicious Article. By strengthening this Article, he, like the custodians and owners of NC & Co which has been trading communalism for several decades now, means negation of the Indian Constitution. It means withdrawal of all the central laws and institutions from the state and the negation of all that the nation in general and people of Jammu and Ladakh in particular, did during all these years to integrate the state into India.
It is the leaders like Vakil who are responsible for the decline of the Congress not only in Jammu & Kashmir but also in the rest of the country. The most significant aspect of the whole situation is that there is hardly a leader in the Congress party across the country who is a democrat or who is genuinely secular. Today's Congress is nothing but a bunch of rank communalists and opportunists having no regard for the country's long-term interests. That's the reason the Congress has become very weak in the country, with even AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi acknowledging that anti-Congress and anti-UPA wave is blowing in the country.
