Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 23: J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu held a strong protest demonstration at Janipur High Court Complex against the Police personnel of Gandhi Nagar, Police Station, who had assaulted advocate Harshvardhan Gupta. The members showing their deep resentment staged a Dharna at Janipur main road and also burnt effigy of SHO Gandhi Nagar. The J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu has already resolved in its General House meeting held on 22-04-2014 that work in all Courts will remain suspended, till the officers involved are suspended and enquiry is initiated against the erring officers. Bar Associations of Kathua, Ramban, Samba, Billawar, Reasi, Katra, Basohli, Udhampur also suspended work in Courts while showing solidarity with the J&K High Court Bar Assocaition, Jammu against the unfortunate incident. Meanwhile National Secular Forum (NSF) today expressed full solidarity and support to Bar Association Jammu, which were observing indefinite strike against thrashing of one of advocate by Station House Officer Gandhi Nagar. Addressing media persons, NSF president Sukhdev Singh said that advocate Harshvardhan had gone to market on scooter for purchasing some household items on April 16 and when he had reached Shivaji Chowk Jammu, Inspector Arun Jamwal, SHO Police Station Gandhi Nagar had abused and thrashed him. Peoples Democratic Party senior leader Dhaman Bhasin has extended its full support to Bar Association of Jammu who is protesting for action against a police officer who had allegedly manhandled, harassed a lawyer. In statement issued here today, Dhman said that it is very unfortunate that police is dealing with the people in the uncivilised manner. He further added that if a lawyer is manhandled or harassed then what could be the fate of common people. He said that Gandhi Nagar Police Station is one of the prime police stations in the city and so far as the student community is concerned, there are two colleges and a university campus under its jurisdiction. National Students' Union of India (NSUI) held a protest at University of Jammu in support of Bar Association of Jammu which is protesting for action against a police officer Arun Jamwal who has allegedly manhandled, harassed a lawyer in Jammu. NSUI activists also burnt the effigy on the while protesting. Talking to the media persons Avjyot Singh, State General secretary of NSUI and a student of Law Department in JU said that it is very unfortunate that police is dealing with the people in the uncivilized manner. |
