Samba, Apr 23: The locals of Jatah-Neda villages, falling under the jurisdiction of Rayor Panchayat Halqa in Samba, today held massive demonstration against the Public Works Department (PWD) for not repairing the wooden bridge on seasonal rivulet across the two villages. The protest was led by PDP leader Sunny Sangral and joined by people of the Panchayat Halqa. They raised slogans against the PWD department and blamed the concerned authorities for the plight of people who are suffering due to poor condition of wooden bridge. Panch of Jatah, Major Singh regretted that the bridge was last repaired some 15 years ago and since then nothing has been done. He said that that bridge was constructed in 1979 and caters to the need of hundreds of the villagers particularly during rainy season. But owing to bad condition of the bridge people of surrounding 25 villages were facing hardships, he added. Sunny Sangral lamented the authorities for lackadaisical approach. He said the women and children were the worst sufferers as they put their life in risk while crossing the bridge which is in dilapidated. He flayed the Block Development Officer (BDO) and Local MLA Yash Pal Kundal for completely ignoring the plight of poor villagers. He threatened to launch massive agitation if the repair work on the bridge is not done within seven days. Among others present on the occasion were Srishti Singh, Ramesh Singh, Gara Singh, Balkar Singh and Surjeet Singh. |
