Saroori seeks probe in 'messy construction of Thatri-Kisht-Sinthan Road

Kishtwar, Apr 23 : Expressing concerns over alleged misappropriations in ongoing construction of Thatri-Kishtwar-Sinthan Road, Senior Congress leader and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori today called upon National Highway Authority of India authorities and urged them to probe the role of General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) which was entrusted the responsibility of construction cum widening of Batote-Kishtwar-Sinthan-Srinagar road project in Jammu and Kashmir. Saroori in a press statement issued today alleged that GREF 114 Road Construction Company (RCC) of Beacon is using sub-standard material in construction of road and bridges all along Thathri-Kishtwar -Kishtwar- Sinthan Road.
"GREF has endangered the lives of commuters who travel in vehicles plying on this road stretch, he said and alleged that GREF 114 RCC authorities were trying to finish its work without maintaining quality.
He said the concerned GREF authorities most of the time remain at the center of the storm for alleged sub standard work and delaying the tactics, he said and added, "whether it is the sinking of peripheral roads or be it the construction of alternative link road at Pul-Doda and Assar all expose the claims of GREF.
Congress MLA said that in last few months, he himself has caught GREF twice using sub standard material in construction of side walls and parapets all along Kishtwar-Batote highway.
To substantiate his words, he said on his way to Jammu, he even stopped his cavalcade near Shalimar and Thatri where GREF labourers were digging mountain and were using that same raw material into construction of side walls.
He said that protection walls on Kishtwar-Thatri road virtually have collapsed, thus exposing the quality of the material used in construction of these walls constructed only months back. "The people living all along the national highway right from Premnagar to Thathri, Drabshallah, Kandani, Shalimar, Malipath Chowk to Girinager chowk Kishtwar, Bhandarkote and Mugalmaidan complaint that the drain water perforates into their houses even during dry weather courtesy work of GREF authorities.
He said that GREF uses light weight iron rods, which is the main reason behind the collapse of the drain and wall at various place.
He also blamed poor road condition for frequent road accident, beside illegal extraction of stone all along this Highway further triggering of shooting stones.
Saroori asked the Deputy Commissioners of Doda and Kishtwar to conduct a thorough probe into the use of sub standard material by the GREF authorities this highway. He also called the concerned SHOs to lodged FIRs against GREF authority for using sub-standard materials.
