Stone pelters calling shots across Kashmir as Police succumbs to pressure tactics

Jammu, May 15: Post last phase of parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Law and order in Kashmir is revolving around infamous stone pelters who are apprehended and then released by Police under public pressure.
When Kashmir witnessed strike today following the strike call of Hardliner separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, Jammu and kashmir Police released around 56 youth in north Kashmir's Sopore town who as per Police sources were detained on charges of stone pelting post parliamentary elections in the area.
According to police officials, all the youth were released after proper counseling and among the detainees 38 were wanted in many other cases other than stone pelting while as 18 youth were involved in stone pelting only. Earlier last week Sopore and other towns of North kashmir observed shut down for four days demanding of release of detained youth by police.
After slapping Public safety act (PSA) on one Youth namely Zubair Ahmad Turey of Main Town Shopian allegedly involved in Stone pelting incidents, Inspector General of Police Abdul Gani Mir today directed the Police to provide counselling and de-addiction support to another 14 year old alleged stone pelter, Faisal Ahmad Mir, alias Chota Geelani of Shopian.
According to police spokesperson, Faisal who was arrested on Wednesday is involved in a number of cases of stone pelting in Shopian and various other violent activities; besides he is a drug addict and needs proper counseling to overcome the menace. In North Kashmir's Baramullah District, police on Wednesday slapped the PSA on Zahoor Ahmed Mala of Old Town Baramullah.
According to police sources Zahoor was first arrested in 2010 on stone pelting charges and had recovered narcotics from Zahoor's possession too.
As Police sources said that various cases under sections 148, 149, 332, 336, 307, 427 are pending against him and arround ten FIR'S have been lodged against him in different police of different nature of cases,family members of Zahoor refuted claims and staged protest demonstration outside police station.
Family members claim police highhandedness and said that a local court on April 27 had granted bail to him but police detained him again and implicated him in another fake case.
According to the details received six stone pelters evading arrests have surrendered at police station Hajin today. Police spokesperson said that six stone pelters who are involved in recent cases of violence and stone pelting and were evading arrest today surrendered at police station Hajin.
According to details received among the surrendered youth include Manzoor Ahmad Dar son of Sonaullah Dar, Ghulam Jeelani Dar son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Dar, Mumtaz Ahmad Dar son of Farooq Ahmad Dar, Abdul Hamid Rather son of Sonaullah Rather, Showkat Ahmad Khan son of Mohammad Yousuf Khan and Azhar-ud-din Dar son of Mohammad Akbar all residents of Shah Gundoo Hajin area. A local court in North Kashmir's Bandipora District today granted bail to 7 youth who were arrested by police for disturbing the law and order in the area.
According to police statements youth namely Umar Riyaz Sheikh, Arif Rasool Mir, Sajad Ahmad Parra, Asif Showkat Hakim , Danish Maqbool Mir, Khalid Shafi Bohra and Bilal Ahmad Bhat were handed over to their families after proper counseling.
