| Red Cross Society Jammu sans propriety, transparency | | | Shiv Thakur
Jammu, May 13: Red cross society, which is known for its benevolent activities across the world, has done little in Jammu to keep up its repute and character due to lack of propriety and transparency in its operation. While there are number of examples where the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) has failed to deliver on ground, but its officials like the state politicians are leaving no stone unturned to put a carpet on the matter as whosoever is being contacted about the irregularities prevailing in the regional body is harping with his own pipe and own taste. Same came to fore when Early Times made an attempt to contact General Secretary Roma Wani, she said, "Red Cross society is a first front party and Red cross society has its own survey committee to check the genuineness of the victim who is to be helped and there is no scheme to help BPL people and usually come forward to help peoples in case of natural calamities only. Secretary Jammu region R C Puri said that the Victim who is to be helped must be a BPL and Red Cross Society always come forward to help the downtrodden financially as well as medically and in this regard, meetings are usually held with the executive body time to time. However, reliable sources within the body unfolded entirely different story, as according to them, the IRCS Jammu is doing nothing for needy students and other weaker sections of the society but helping only blue eyed rather than doing something in principle for the up-liftment of the society. Sources further said that there is no transparency in the system. "The schemes of Red Cross are presently only available in city area depriving the actual needy ones from the peripherals and far off villages of the state. |
