| ANC expresses security concern in state | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 15 : L Awami National Conference (ANC) has expressed serious concern over the atmosphere of insecurity among Panchayat members who are moving from post to pillar to ensure their security. ANC Provincial President, Gian Singh in a press statement issued asked the Govt to take deserving steps to reinstate the faith and feeling of security among these demoralized Panchayat members." A sense of insecurity has prevailed among the elected grassroots representatives of the Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir due to the increasing attacks on them." "Sarpanches and panches are the soft targets of militants and they have been attacked a number of times before, he added. While condemning the brutal killing of Pachayat members, Singh called it a desperate attempt of the terrorists who are hell bent to derail the electioneering process in state. Singh adding further said that people of Jammu and Kashmir have always stood for the democracy and have always come out in large number to cast their votes daring all threats. Singh urged the government of India to seriously consider and take all necessarily measures so that Panchs and Sarpanchs fearlessly devote their time and energy for the developmental process. Singh while expressing his anguish over miserable condition of Panchayat members said that they were chosen on the promise of development and decentralization and that is what the electorate gave them mandate for but owing to excessive politicization and no efforts from the top in pursuit of the end, the elected panches and sarpanches have been unable to perform, increasing their vulnerability from various sides. |
