| CM resorts to half truths on Guru hanging | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 21: Attributing hanging of Afzal Guru as one of the reasons for his party's poll debacle, Omar has started offering half truths on the emotive issue. Omar had ruled out any role in the hanging of Afzal Guru, who was convicted by the Supreme Court for terror attack on the Parliament. Omar had said that anyone can check the details by filing RTI application. Though Guru was resident of J&K but the crime and incident had taken place at New Delhi, ruing out his written consent or participation in the decision making. However, it has been reported that he was approached and consulted by the Home Ministry on this issue. This is something which cannot be revealed through RTI query. There were media reports to suggest that Omar had given consent and infact wanted execution to be held during peak winters in the Valley. Omar had been consistently raking up the issue of hanging of the Afzal Guru, and now considers it to be an issue for his poll debacle. Though he is still ignoring the fact that it is one of the issues and the real issue was his total disconnect. Omar is once again doing which he had done two year back. He had termed Afzal Guru as Guru Sahib in the Assembly and also shed tears while speaking about his execution. His this gesture, had it carried any weight, would have been taken as a sort of apology, but it didn't translate into that. Former Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdulalh also tried to play up this issue and blamed former Home Secretary and now BJP MP RP Singh for the execution, who quickly retorted and asked Omar to share details of his meeting with the then Home Minister Sushil Shinde, who too lost the election. |
