Jammu, May 21: Just three years after they were inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh amidst great fanfare, the apartments in Jagti Township for Kashmiri Pandit migrants have started to crumble and decay leaving the dwellers petrified and the department of Relief and Revenue exposed. Well placed sources in the Relief Organisation Jammu, told Early Times that for maintenance work, tenders have been invited on May 17, 2014. "Many skeletons could tumble out of the cupboards of the relief department as poor construction and sub standard material used in the construction of the township has caused large scale decay in the building blocks especially in kitchens and bathrooms just three years after they were handed over to the migrant families", he said, adding that to carry out the repairs clandestinely, Organization bypassed mandatory e-tendering and published the tender notice in lesser known publications.
Sources informed that the Relief organization has invited tenders of works of worth Rs 41.79 lacs. "Tenders for nine works in various blocks for maintenance of Kitchen, bathrooms and terraces were invited", sources said.
An inmate revealed that the water and sanitation pipes had ruptured and the buildings had developed threatening cracks. "Sub standard material was used for the project and a thorough probe should be ordered to check embezzlement " he told adding that the shady deals and nexus between the officials of Relief department and the contractors was still on.
"With the support of political figures and bureaucrats contractors are managing NOC's on the completion of the projects", he added further.
